The museum is an excellent destination for study outings and provides a good addition to the history curriculum of schools. Its authentic setting demonstrates important events in the history of Finland in a concrete and living way. Hankoniemi Front Museum offers guided tours for school groups at the Front Museum, located on a wartime front line, as well as at the Bunker Museum Irma, located five kilometers away.
The museums are located in unique cultural-historical settings and teachers are requested to instruct their pupils to move carefully in the area and to keep to the paths.

At the Hankoniemi Front Museum:
At the Front Museum, the groups explore the exhibitions in the museum's interior together with an expert guide. If time permits, the group can also independently visit the museum's Tradition Center. There is a War Path outside that winds through the surrounding area, where traces of the war can still be observed. The guidebook for the trail is available for loan at the museum or can be downloaded via a QR code found both inside the museum and by the outside door, as well as at the trail's starting point. Around the museum building, visitors can see trenches, gun positions, and military equipment, such as a tank and artillery.
At the Bunker Museum Irma:
The museum bunker, called Irma, has been restored to its original condition and provides a good insight into the life of soldiers during the war, when it was part of the Harparskog defense line. During the visit, visitors will learn about the defense line and the historically significant events that led to its construction. In the immediate vicinity of the bunker, there is an impressive tank barrier, which was built to defend against a possible enemy attack with tanks.
A guided tour at the Hankoniemi Front Museum or the Bunker Museum Irma costs 50 € per school group. A visit at both museums costs 65 € per school group.
The guided tours are conducted under the leadership of expert guides.
The school is responsible for transportation costs, arranging transportation and possible snacks.
At the Hankoniemi Front Museum:
It is recommended to reserve 1.5 to 2 hours for the visit,
depending on the size of the group and their preferences.
At the Bunker Museum Irma:
It is recommended to reserve 1 to 1.5 hours for the visit,
depending on the size of the group and their preferences.
At the Hankoniemi Front Museum:
For a successful visit, it is recommended that groups come in class-sized or smaller groups so that everyone can hear and see properly. We also welcome larger groups, in which case the groups are divided so that one group tours the indoor areas with a guide, while the other explores the outdoor areas with the teacher. After that, the groups switch places.
At the Bunker Museum Irma:
The indoors space at the Bunker Museum Irma is limited. Larger school groups will be divided into two parts, with one half exploring the bunker, while the other half visits the tank barrier together with a guide.
Schoolgroups may enjoy their own packed lunch at the museum.
Drinks and small snacks can be purchased at the Bunker Flower canteen.
We accept bookings all year round.
